Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday said that there are no well defined parameters in the current Defence Procurement Policy as of now.

"The current defence procurement policy has some gaps, there are no well defined parameters. Since we are the only consumers, we are the only buyer whenever you deal with anyone there has to be guarantee of purchase from Make in India. In short, unless you guarantee a purchase on successful production, there is no chance of anyone coming forward. The current policies are too cumbersome, bureaucratic nightmare for any industry, said Parrikar.

"Keeping in mind Gujarat, there are two things. From the defence side, when we make a policy and the Indian Industry is interested in it then there begins a different chapter. One is encouraging the industry, the other is setting up the industry. Gujarat government comes into setting up the industry," he added.

According to reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre is considering rolling out a new defence procurement policy that will have fresh norms for blacklisting firms and engagement of 'agents' besides attracting investments.
