Six people have died in West Bengal at different locations due to cyclone -- Bulbul.
Five deaths have been reported from North 24 Parganas, while one death was reported from South 24 Parganas. Three women and two men have lost their lives in North 24 Parganas.
"Around 2.97 lakh people have been affected by Bulbul. Six deaths have taken place -- five in North 24 Parganas and one in South 24 Parganas," said Disaster Management Minister Javed Khan.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the very severe cyclonic storm -- Bulbul -- over northwest Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards, weakened into a severe cyclonic storm and crossed West Bengal coast close to Sunderban Dhanchi forest during the night of November 9 with a maximum sustained wind speed of 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph.
It then moved east-northeastwards, and further weakened into a cyclonic storm over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood in the early morning today.
At 8:30 am today, it lay centered over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood, about 180 km east-northeast of Sagar Islands (West Bengal), 70 km east-northeast of Sunderban National Park, 140 km east-southeast of Kolkata and 60 km west-northwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).
