The father of the fiancee of new Real Madrid footballer Gareth Bale may reportedly face a prison term of 30 years over alleged accusations of 40 charges of wire fraud and money laundering.
According to the Daily Star, Martin Rhys-Jones, father of Bale's fiancee Emma Rhys-Jones, is reportedly being held in a US jail over allegations of a multi-million pound international fraud.
The report said that Rhys-Jones is accused of running a telemarketing scam from Barcelona, which allegedly saw victims sell low-value shares for high prices.
Although Bale, who is now the world's most expensive footballer following his 86 million-pound switch from Tottenham Hotspur, has dated his childhood sweetheart Emma for years, he however, has reportedly put off a wedding in the hope that his prospective father-in-law will be released from prison in time for the wedding.
However, US authorities said that it is unlikely that Rhys-Jones will get bail due to his attempts to resist extradition from Spain.
Last year, Bale and Emma became parents for the first time following the birth of baby daughter Alba, the report added.
