The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday said the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) should have resolved the 'affair' controversy involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Kumar Vishwas at its own level rather than referring the matter to the Union Home Ministry

"If they have written a letter to the Home Minister, they will examine it. But I think there must be other ways by which the Delhi Commission for Women could have taken up this matter," said BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao.

"There is an FIR already registered, they could have taken it up with the Delhi Police Commissioner or they could have taken up at their own level, transferring matter to the Government of India doesn't seem like the best way to resolve a small crisis," he added.

DCW chief Barkha Shukla had earlier said that they have written to the Union Home Ministry, Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi and Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung seeking their intervention in the case against Vishwas.

Shukla also criticized Vishwas' failure to appear before the DCW after being summoned twice to clarify over his alleged affair with a party volunteer and accused the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP of working against women.

Vishwas, who has been accused of having a physical relationship with a volunteer in the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, had for the second time in a row yesterday did not appear before the DCW despite summons being sent to him.

The woman in question, who chose not to be identified, has alleged that Vishwas's wife has been spreading rumours that she found him in a compromising position with the AAP leader. She has also alleged that she is being defamed on the social media.

Vishwas has so termed the woman's allegations as baseless and put the onus on the Delhi Police which he said did not take any action on her complaint. The AAP leader had earlier said that the allegations were baseless and rival parties were out to defame him.
