The dean of Netaji Subhashchandra Bose Medical College of Jabalpur, Dr. D.K. Sakalley, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence on Friday.
According to preliminary information, Dr. Sakalley immolated himself in a garden behind his house at 8.45 a.m. this morning.
"We couldn't save him. We were discussing about issues even last evening. His health wasn't well for many days," said Dr. Ruplekha Chauhan.
"We have seen the spot. The primary information indicates it was a suicide. He was being retired in the next two months. We haven't found any suicide note. We will know entire details only after the investigation. He used kerosene," said Superintendent of Police Harynarayanchari Mishra.
"We found matchbox in the spot. There was news about him being under depression. This incident has nothing to do with Vyapam scam. He was alone in the house. His wife went out. It would be hasty to jump to any conclusion," he added.
Reportedly, a suicide note has been recovered as well. However, the police said that the dean has died in a suspicious condition and therefore has not yet confirmed it to be a case of suicide.
