Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chief Vijay Goel on Saturday reached out to Purvanchalis ahead of the December 4 assembly polls, and charged the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government of not doing enough for the common man who is presently facing the burden of price rise and inflation.

Goel emphasized that there is a need to develop the National Capital Region (NCR) to ensure that those coming from Purvanchal are able to live properly in an amiable environment.

"We need to develop the NCR region for our Purvanchali people who come out in large numbers from outside. The Delhi Government has not developed that region. So, there has been repeatedly a burden on Delhi and has eventually led to a major problem," said Goel.

He claimed that the Delhi Government has done nothing in the last 15 years to bring civic solutions to the areas having settlements of people from Purvanchal.

"These people who come from outside have to bear the burden of inflation. Ten people live in one room. So, we need to build hostels and houses for them so that they can live there with all basic facilities," he added.

Attempting to lure the Purvanchali voters to back the saffron outfit in the assembly polls, Goel said the people of this community has made an enormous contribution in the development of Delhi.

"We are holding them responsible unlike the Delhi Government that the Poorvanchalis are responsible for the deteriorating condition of Delhi. But we want to say that this Purvanchali community has played a prominent role in the development of Delhi," he said.

Goel, who alleged that there is massive corruption under the Congress regime in Delhi, also raised the issue of electricity that has been a cause or concern for the common man.

"The state government has misled the people of Delhi. They had promised 24x7 cheap electricity following which through an agreement the private players were allowed to come in, but despite all this the cost of electricity is quite high," he said

The Model Code of Conduct has come into force in five states, including Delhi, going for the assembly polls.

Voters in all the five states of Delhi, Rajasthan, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh will for the first time have the choice of 'None of the above option' to reject the candidates contesting the election in a constituency.

Chief Election Commissioner V. S. Sampath, who announced the poll schedule yesterday, said except Chhattisgarh where polls will be held in two phases, all other four states will have single-phase polls.

The elections will be held in Chhattisgarh on 11th and 19th November. While in Madhya Pradesh, the polls will be on November 25 and in Rajasthan on December 1. The election in Delhi and Mizoram will be held on 4th December.

Counting of votes in all the states will take place on December 8.
