Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said the alleged rape of a 27-year-old woman in the national capital by an Uber cab employee was extremely unfortunate and shameful.
"This is extremely unfortunate and shameful. Laws are to be implemented effectively, strict action and perceptional change is also necessary. When such incidents happen, then we all naturally get hurt," Singh told the media here.
Echoing similar sentiments, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that the government was taking strict action.
"Such incidents are unfortunate, strict action is being taken by the government on this," Naqvi said.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi said that the accused, who was arrested yesterday in Mathura, has been brought to the capital and further details will be shared only after his interrogation.
"We have brought him to Delhi, we are interrogating him, we will provide you further details after interrogation is over," Bassi told ANI.
The cab driver had allegedly raped the victim, who was working with a finance company in Gurgaon, on Friday night, when she hired the taxi to go back to her home in Northwest Delhi.
A case had reportedly been registered under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sarai Rohilla police station.
