The Delhi Catholic Archdiocese on Wednesday appealed to the government and civil society to protect minorities and ensure proper law and order in every part of the country.

"We appeal to the civil society and to the government, the minorities may be protected and proper law and order be maintained in every part of this country. There is a feeling of doubt but we also have full faith in the country and the government of every state. We just hope that such incidents are not repeated," said Father Savarimuthu, spokesperson, Delhi Catholic Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese's appeals come after a Christian missionary school in West Bengal received threat letters demanding its shut down.

The police have registered a complaint in the case and pickets have been deployed inside the premises of St Capitonia Girl's High School under in Champaguri area of Jalpaiguri district.

The school authority had filed a complaint at a local police station on the basis of letters.

This incident is the latest in a series of attacks against Christian institutions across the country.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mumbai Police arrested four people for hurling stones inside the St. George Catholic Church compound in New Panvel of Navi Mumbai. The attackers had damaged the glass enclosure of the statue of Saint George before speeding away on a motorcycle.
