Delhi: CBI registers case against Income Tax Commissioner over disproportionate assets

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday registered a case against an Income Tax Commissioner (Appeals), his wife and unknown others in Delhi for possession of an alleged disproportionate assets of approximately Rs.4.28 crore.

The agency has registered the case under section 109 of the Indian Penal Code and 13(1) (e) r/w 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

"It was alleged that the officer, of the IRS1988 Batch, while working as a public servant in different capacities from the post of ACIT to Commissioner of Income Tax has amassed immovable and movable properties in his name and in the name of his family members which were disproportionate to the known sources of his income," the official release said.

The CBI conducted searches at 12 places, including Chennai, Surat, Bihar's Saharsa district, and Delhi which led to the recovery of incriminating documents related to information of properties and some companies in the name of his wife, mother and son.

"Searches were also conducted at the premises of some Chartered Accountants at Chennai and Surat who were allegedly associated with the said officer," it added.

The agency is presently conducting further investigation into the matter.
