Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Friday criticized Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for failing to provide uninterrupted power supply, and said the state government has no right to function if it is unable to provide electricity to the people.

"It is the responsibility of the Delhi Government and the chief minister to provide 24 hours uninterrupted power supply to the people. He had promised people 50 percent reduction in power tariffs," he said.

"There has been no 50 percent reduction, and people are still getting bills at inflated amount. No citizen of Delhi has got the benefit of 50 percent cut till now. If the government is unable to provide electricity to people, I don't think it has any right to function, and be talking about the politics of the country," he added.

Harshvardhan's criticism of the Kejriwal regime came after Discom BSES Yamuna Power Ltd (BYPL) had warned that it would be forced to resort to daily power cuts of up to 10 hours from February as it has no funds to pay public sector generation units for power supply.

The Reliance-backed Discom has written to the Delhi Government saying it could lose over 500mw of supply if generation units do not extend credit and give it more time to clear dues.
