Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Saturday appealed to the people of Delhi to vote in large numbers, even as the assembly elections were underway.
"I would request all that they should come out from their home and cast their votes in huge numbers," Jung told ANI after casting his vote.
Earlier in the day, President Pranab Mukherjee had cast his vote from the President's Estate.
Other leaders, including the chief ministerial candidates for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party and Congress Kiran Bedi, Arvind Kejriwal and Ajay Maken also cast their vote, as well as Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Raghav Chadha and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vijay Goel have also exercised their democratic right.
Chief of Army Staff General Dalbir Singh, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Chandra Bhushan Kumar have also cast their votes.
The polling for 70-member Delhi Assembly started at 8 am and will end at 6 pm. A total of 673 candidates, including 63 women, are in the fray in this election.
The counting of votes will take place on February 10.
