Delhi NGO offering skill development to refugees

Bosco Delhi, in partnership with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), is providing comprehensive support in education and skill training programmes, language and vocational training, health services and psychosocial support to refugees from Afghanistan, Nepal, Myanmar and African countries.

Don Bosco is a global organization operating in 132 countries in the world. It works like a companion, accompanying the refugees to lead a dignified life.

Bosco helps the refugees in upgrading their skills by providing various training programmes to get suitable job in the market.

Ahmed Yusuf hails from Kabul and studied till Class 10. He is now happy to continue his studies through Bosco.

Bosco helps the migrants to get access in government schools and also make them accessible to avail health benefits from the government hospitals. They also provide generic medicines to them.

Delhi is home to a large number of refugees from conflict countries and they seek better opportunities to settle their life. Skill development of refugees is the prime aim of Bosco. Bosco is operating in South Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area with three learning centers, a creche and health services.

Besides providing education and health facilities to the refugees, the NGO creates small scale business opportunities for them in support of UNHCR.

UNHCR is always negotiating with the government for the safe and protection of refugee because it is mandate of UNHCR and therefore there is always a liaison with the government to give maximize dignified life to any refugee.

Psychosocial element is given particular attention in Bosco. There are refugees who go through Psycho-traumatic situation, personal and individual counsel is given to the refugees. Those who are in acute cases are given institutional care and protection. Bosco is linked with one of the technical support in psychosocial interventions with Vimhans Mental Health Center.

The government of India has taken proactive steps for the refugees who keep coming into India are helped to stand on their own feet. (ANI)
