The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday registered a case against Delhi police crime branch Assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Rakesh Kumar, on corruption charges.
Kumar was booked under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of Prevention of Corruption Act.
Kumar was booked after a writ complaint was filed against him by a woman, who alleged the policeman picked up her brother Imran on the pretext to verify some address of his employers, but 'framed' him in a case.
She alleged Kumar demanded a bribe of Rs. 2 lakh to release her brother, but reduced the amount to Rs. l lakh when she expressed her inability to pay. Finally, the deal was settled for Rs. 70.000, she said.
The woman also said they had filed for Imran's bail application in August, which was cancelled. Now, a second bail application has been filed through her counsel, she added.
The woman has also alleged that on November 1, she sought time from Kumar to meet, who told her to speak to his lawyer, who called her later in the day. The caller introduced himself as Anshul.
The complainant as she did not want to pay the bribe to Kumar, she filed a complaint with the CBI (anti-corruption branch) Superintendent of police, which was further marked to Inspector C. M. S. Negi for verification.
