A special judge for cases pertaining to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at Tis Hazari Courts on Wednesday convicted former head constable of the Crime Against Women Cell of the Delhi Police Satyawan and sentenced him to four years' of rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs. 5,000 for accepting bribe.
The court also directed him to pay Rs. 3,000 to the complainant as compensation.
The CBI had registered a case on April 21, 2004 under sections 7, 13 (1)(d) and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act on a complaint.
The complainant had alleged that the in-laws of his daughter were not happy with the dowry given at the time of marriage and were torturing his daughter for more dowry.
He had lodged a complaint at the Crime Against Women Cell on January 30, 2004, which was assigned to head constable Satyawan for verification and registration of case under appropriate sections of law.
The head constable called the complainant number of times, but deliberately did not register the case and instead demanded a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from the complainant, said a CBI press release.
The CBI laid a trap and caught Satyawan red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 3,000 from the complainant at the Pitampura Police Station.
A charge-sheet was filed against Satyawan in the Court Of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Tis Hazari Courts.
