Demonetisation woes: Bank pays Rs 20,000 in 10 rupee coins to customer

A man here has received Rs 20,000 in 10 rupee coins from a bank after it said it had run out of currency notes.

Imtiaz Alam told ANI, "I went to the bank, thinking that they would give me 50,ooo rupees through a self payee cheque, and after four hours of standing in queues, I found that they are giving us Rs 2,000 each for daily expenses, whether I had saving account or current account."

"I went to the Jamia Co-Operative Bank and have also have to go on a tour next week. I literally pleaded in front of the bank manager for his help and said that I don't have money for daily expenses of my family. He said that they can give me Rs 20,000 in the form of Rs 10 coin denomination. I took it seriously and accepted the offer," Alam added.

Alam further said, "They gave me 20 packets of 10 rupee coins with 1,000 rupee in one packet each.
