Manchester United's record signing Angel Di Maria has said that he has joined the Premier League club to help them return to Champions League and win many trophies.

The Argentine winger, who joined United from Real Madrid for a British record transfer fee of 59.7 million pounds on Tuesday, said that he wants to help the club become an important team once again, and to win many trophies with them.

Di Maria could make his debut on Saturday against newly promoted Burnley in the Premier League. He said that he likes the team and wanted to come there even though they're not playing in the Champions League, The BBC reported.

The winger said that he wants to help the team get into the Champions League, adding that he is pleased with the manager for choosing him to come to United.

Di Maria will wear the number seven jersey, previously worn by George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.

United have taken just one point from a potential six in the Premier League so far and were knocked out of the Capital One Cup after a 4-0 defeat by League One side MK Dons on Tuesday.

United football team manager Louis van Gaal, who is hoping for more signings before Monday's transfer deadline, said that he hopes Di Maria shall give them good results but they cannot expect after two days training that he is the miracle.

Van Gaal said that they have to look at the future and they are doing that now with United by restoring and rebuilding a new team and that costs time.

The Dutchman said that Di Maria fits in their philosophy and he can change the system with the Argentina international and maybe United will do that in the future. Van Gaal also said that at Real Di Maria didn't only play as a winger but also in midfield so that is also a reason why they are convinced he shall succeed.
