Car manufacturers Mercedes, Toyota and Mahindra & Mahindra moved the Supreme Court on Monday, seeking modification of its order last month banning 2000 cc diesel cars in the national capital.
The apex court will hear the plea on Tuesday.
In a bid to curb growing air pollution in the national capital, the Supreme Court had last month issued an order banning registration of diesel vehicles of over 2000cc engine capacity in Delhi till March 31, 2016.
The ban on diesel vehicles is affecting over 60 mainly luxury cars from different manufacturers, since most of their sales come from diesel vehicles and Delhi is one of the most crucial markets for them.
The Supreme Court took the drastic step after the Delhi High Court directed the Centre and city government to present comprehensive action plans to combat rising air pollution. The Delhi High Court had termed the national capital a 'gas chamber'.
