National Panthers Party (NPP) leader Harsh Dev Singh on Wednesday condemned the diktat issued by the teachers in a government school of Doda district strictly telling the students not to sing the national anthem in the morning assembly and termed the entire episode as 'obnoxious'.
He urged the state government to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and initiate strict action against the teachers involved.
"This is something obnoxious, highly intolerable and condemnable. It is regrettable that no action has been initiated against the teachers of Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir, who stopped the students from singing the national anthem," Singh told ANI here.
"We call upon the state government to hold a proper enquiry into it, book the culprits and take stringent actions against those teachers," he added.
The students had staged a protest earlier this week to vent their ire over the diktat issued by the teachers and demanded their suspension.
"Some teachers stopped us when we were singing the national anthem. We were surprised and we don't want the teachers to repeat what they did and they should be suspended," said one of the protesting students.
Doda's Deputy Commissioner Bhupinder Kumar, however, assured the students that strict action would be taken against the teachers, who had stopped the students from singing the national anthem.

"We have formed an enquiry committee where the Chief Educational Commissioner will investigate the matter. We will take the necessary actions," he said.
