'Discarded' Taufeeq Umar calls for 'consistent' selection policies in Pak cricket

Pakistani batsman Taufeeq Umar has reportedly called for consistent policies in selection after he was overlooked for the Test series against South Africa which concluded yesterday.

Umar, who last played against Sri Lanka in July, was dropped from the Pakistan team after he suffered an injury in an away series against South Africa.

According to the Express Tribune, although Umar registered scores of 65, 42 not out, 29 and five in his last Test innings, he found himself out of national reckoning after being injured against South Africa in January this year, for which he felt that there should be consistent policies as far as the national team's selection is concerned.

Umar further said that the selectors should not overlook the performance of a player and induct new players performing at the domestic level into the team if that particular player gets injured or opts out of a series due to family problems, adding that players decide against a resting period despite injuries because of their insecurity over their team place.

Stating that his best performances are against South Africa, Umar also said that he is disappointed that those statistics were overlooked.

The report mentioned that the left-hand opener enjoys an impressive record against the Proteas, which beckons a healthy average of 60.83 after scoring an impressive 730 runs in six Tests, including two centuries and four half-centuries.
