A trend observed globally in the anti-ageing industry is a shift from surgical to non surgical techniques. Non surgical facelifts reduces wrinkles, makes the skin appear tighter and younger without the use of a scalpel!

Explaining the procedure, Dr Sirisha Singh, the founding member and partner consultant of The Skin Center, said, "The non surgical facelift procedure involves the use of a technology called non-ablative radio frequency, which uses radio waves to heat up and destroy the old damaged collagen in the skin. Once the natural healing processes kick in and fresh collagen is laid down, the skin regains its elasticity that leads to a lifted appearance of the face."

"At our clinic, we use equipment which combines radiofrequency with vacuum. The vacuum sucks the skin into the equipment; the radiofrequency energy travels through a deeper part of the skin and is more effective. We usually combine it with some Vitamin C supplements as that helps with healing", she added.

This procedure is generally completed in 6 sessions about 2-3 weeks apart, followed by maintenance sessions every 3 months. The initial changes seen after a single appearance is that the skin appears toned, but visible tightening of the face becomes evident after a few weeks.

"The face looks like it has been pulled up, the folds between the nose and the angles of the lips (naso-labial folds) become less deep, the jawline appears better defined and contoured. When performed on the neck, the neck skin appears tighter and firmer and the loose folds of skin gradually disappear", described Dr Singh.

Speaking about the risks involved, she said that as long as the equipment used is FDA approved for skin-tightening and the procedure is performed by a qualified practitioner, the results are good and safe.

According to Dr Singh, there are no long term problems associated with this procedure, which is suitable for people with initial stages of sagging skin, usually seen in those in their 20's to 50's, and as the benefits depend upon the healing ability of the skin, the results are better in people with an active lifestyle and healthy eating habits.
