A workshop on documentary film-making was organised in Srinagar for media students of the Kashmir Valley.
Organised by the Department of Information in collaboration with a Non-Govermental Organisation (NGO) Arasta Trust, the workshop was attended by students of Media Education Research Centre (MERC), University of Kashmir; Media Studies Department, Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST); Department of Journalism, Government Degree College Baramulla; Department of Journalism, Government College for Women Srinagar; and Department of Journalism, Government Degree College Anantnag.
The aim of the seminar was to introduce the budding filmmakers to the aesthetics and technicalities of documentary film-production.
Noted filmmaker Gautam Chakraborty conducted the sessions and introduced students to the fundamentals of photography, videography and audio-recording besides other techniques of film-making.
"I am in my fourth semester right now and this film-making workshop taught me more than what I have learnt in college up until now," said Arif Bashir, a media student.
"We want our students to gain perspective and be prepared for jobs that await them outside the college," said Muneer-ul- Islam, Director Information of the Jammu and Kashmir government.
"This workshop was not the end but a beginning," he added.
The young learners appreciated the step taken by the government and expressed hope that more such workshops will be organised in the future.
