South Africa head coach Russell Domingo has thrown his support behind misfiring Dale Steyn, insisting that the pace spearhead will return to his menacing best in no time.
Considered as one of the most feared pacemen in Test cricket, Steyn seemed to be ineffective in the 20-overs format in recent times and played only two matches in the World Twenty20 in India.
The right-handed paceman struggled with a series of injuries over the last 12 months and has been rested for next month's triangular series against Australia and the West Indies in the Caribbean.
Describing Steyn as a 'champion' bowler, the coach observed that players like him cannot be written off because of their ability to make a strong comeback, Sport24 reported.
The 32-year-old, who has taken 406 wickets in Test format, will instead get some match practice by playing in the Caribbean Premier League and for English county club Glamorgan.
The decision to rest Steyn for the triangular series is part of a plan to keep him fresh for the upcoming test season. South Africa will host New Zealand in August before touring Australia for three-test series in November.
