Extending a slight support to Donald Trump who is recently receiving wide flak over his immigration policy, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar said the U.S. President should not be 'demonetised'.

"Don't demonise Trump, analyse Trump. He represents a thought process. It's not a momentary expression," said Jaishankar, while delivering address on "Political change and economic uncertainties" co-hosted by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Gateway House.

On the other hand, Jaishankar also opined that the U.S. should get the message that its relationship with India is linked to outsourcing and not off shoring, which damages country's tax base.

"We are not part of offshoring, our issue today is outsourcing. Outsourcing helps you to be competitive whereas offshoring damages your tax base," he added.

Trump has been facing criticism over his immigration policy putting a travel ban on citizens from seven Muslim dominated countries and also on his decision on H1B visa, which is a matter of concern for India too.

The MEA earlier on February 9 assured that there is a continuous engagement with the members of the U.S. administration over the same.

"We continue to engage both members of the U.S. administration and U.S. Congress on our concerns pertaining to H-1B and other issues as well. We are also engaging with internal stakeholders in India," MEA official spokesperson Vikas Swarup told the media.
