Manchester City have signed Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund in a four-year deal for worth 20 million pounds.

With the contract, the 25-year-old midfielder becomes the first signing of the manager Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium.

Gundogan dislocated a knee cap earlier in May, thus casting doubts City would follow through on their long-term interest. But City went on to sign the German midfielder regardless of his condition.

Confirming the news, Gundogan said he is thrilled to join the Etihad Stadium club, adding that he hopes to achieve great things with his new club.

"Now I have a new challenge and that is to achieve great things with City.

The opportunity to work with a coach like Pep Guardiola is something I am really looking forward to and I am flattered to be the first signing the Club has made this summer," the German was quoted as saying by goal.com.

He, however, thanked Borussia Dortmund for giving him a platform to play and become a better player.

Gundogan, who has won 16 caps for Germany, has made a total of 157 appearances for Dortmund over five years.
