A Pakistani pilot of an Airbus has been jailed for nine months after he was found more than three-times the permitted alcohol limit before flying from England.
Irfan Faiz was breath-tested at Leeds Bradford Airport on September 18, when he was undergoing pre-flight checks in an Airbus 310 with 145 passengers and 11 crew on board about to fly from England to Pakistan.
Justice Coulson at Leeds Crown Court said that it was "extraordinary" that the Pakistani rules only stated that there should be a 12-hour gap between "bottle and throttle", News.com.au reports.
He further added that he was astonished to hear that pilots regularly flying out of the UK were not aware of the alcohol rules of the country.
