Ebola death toll goes beyond 1,900 in West Africa: WHO

The World Health Organization has announced that at least 1,900 people have died since the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

There were 3,500 confirmed or likely cases in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, said the organization's head Margaret Chan.

She said that the Ebola outbreak is spreading at a rapid speed and going out of control in West Africa.

The WHO is likely to conduct a meeting today whereby the organization would discuss the most promising treatments and how the testing can be done faster, reported the BBC.

Medical researchers, disease control experts and officials from affected countries are expected to be present at the meeting in Geneva today.

The WHO earlier warned that more than 20,000 people could be affected by the virus if it is not controlled.
