Ahead of next month's assembly polls in Bihar, the Election Commission (EC) has warned candidates and political leaders not to make statements repugnant to the dignity of women.

In an advisory sent to all national and state parties, the EC has asked candidates to maintain high standards during campaigning, saying it is putting all political parties on notice that for any violation of the model code of conduct and use of intemperate abusive language, they may face action from it.

The EC said the warning was being issued based on past experiences.
