Former Pakistan cricket skipper Shoaib Malik has described his Indian wife Sania Mirza's achievement of becoming the world's top-ranked doubles tennis player as a 'matter of pride for Pakistan'.
Tennis ace Mirza became the first Indian woman to achieve the feat after winning the Charleston title on Sunday while partnering with Swiss star Martina Hingis.
Reflecting on his wife's achievement, Malik said that he was extremely proud and overwhelmed with joy, adding that it was a matter of pride for Pakistan as she is his wife, Sport24 reported.
Malik maintained that she is from India, adding that she represents her nation with 100 percent determination to be the best.
The Pakistan all-rounder also said that the achievement is also a victory for all tennis players and tennis fans in India and Pakistan on what is possible with hard work at a global level.
Malik, a veteran of 216 one-day internationals, insisted that he was working hard to make a comeback to the national side.
