Juventus beat French club AS Monaco 1-0 in their last-eight first leg Champions League tie on Tuesday and the Italian side would take a small lead when the sides meet again in their second leg match.

Arturo Vidal's second half penalty saw Juventus taking a one goal lead in the last eight tie. Monaco missed a chance to equalize when Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco wasted a clear opening for the visitors in Turin before Carlos Tevez fluffed a volley for Juventus.

Vidal, who had blazed over just before the break, then blasted home an emphatic penalty following Ricardo Carvalho's trip on Alvaro Morata, the BBC reported.

Dimitar Berbatov headed just over but Monaco were mostly kept at bay by the Italian side.

Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim claimed that the result was a big injustice with the decisive spot-kick inexistent, as repeated viewings suggested that Carvalho tripped Morata fractionally outside the penalty area.

Juventus also missed chances to build a bigger advantage with Vidal, Carlos Tevez and Alvaro Morata all wasteful in front of goal.

Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri said that it was a good result, adding that not conceding a goal at home gives them a small advantage. He claimed that Monaco is a very-well organized team.
