English media calls for need for Finn to take control of bowling career ahead of Champions Trophy, Ashes

The English media said that cricketer Steven Finn needed to take control of his bowling career and thereby become a key part of the bowling attack of the team.

According to the Mirror, Finn is a quick bowler who can be as awkward as former captain Andrew Flintoff due to his height and pace, but is unable to be a swing or seam bowler who uses tricks like James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

Lauding the fact that Finn had been made to work hard after the end of the Investec Test to draw out his bowling skills, the report said that those skills were in ascendant during the Headingley Test, which finally saw New Zealand out of the race, adding that Finn had almost touched his best bowling skills and also delivered the ball with hostility.

According to the report, Finn is at his best when he is bowling quick and with rhythm, which probably comes from his long run up, adding that although the attempt to shorten his run-up has not worked, Finn and his coach have identified how to get back to the basics that can make him a high quality Test bowler.

The report further said that Finn should know his strengths and weaknesses and should move towards his peak with the help of experts, adding that by the end of this summer he should be past being picked and dropped and picked again.

Stating that Finn is the future of English bowling just as Joe Root is the future of batting, the report also said that Finn should be the sort of bowler who, when fit, plays, adding that he should try his best to make himself a threat in both the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy and the Ashes.

Finn is has the pace, the height, the ability, and the heart to be just as dangerous, if he takes control, the report added.
