EU warns communal violence could destabilise Sri Lanka

In the wake of the recent violence against Muslims in Sri Lanka, the European Union (EU) has reportedly warned that continuing communal violence in the country would undermine it's stability.

According to The Island, the EU condemned the violent attacks on Muslims in Alutgama and neighbouring areas, saying that the EU Delegation was very alarmed by the recent violence perpetrated against the Muslim community.

The EU expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and those affected by the violence, and welcomed the Sri Lankan government's assurance of an investigation into the violent incident.

The EU further said that incitement of communal violence and hatred can only be counterproductive to Sri Lanka's stability and urged the Sri Lankan government to ensure that the rule of law is upheld, the report added.
