Former Indian cricketer Surinder Khanna on Thursday. said that the decision taken by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, to step down as the captain in limited overs format, should be respected, as every player has a shelf life.

"Dhoni has been an outstanding player. Indian cricket has done very well under him and won many trophies. I believe that every player has a shelf life," he said.

Dhoni has stepped down as the captain of the Indian ODI and T20I cricket teams, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) intimated in a press release on Wednesday.
