A former army chief of Britain has said that the country may need to send ground troops to fight Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq and Syria.
According to Sky News, General Lord Dannatt said that the western leaders might have to "think the unthinkable" if the combination of local and global forces proved insufficient.
The former chief of the general staff also spoke about the murder of US aid worker Peter Kassig following the release of an IS video wherein the militants claimed to have done the execution.
Lord Dannatt whose family knew Kassig personally, said that stricter action is needed and that the UK should think closely on joining the airstrikes.
He also said that they need to build up local forces more quickly and effectively on the ground.
