Ex-CJI's appointment as Kerala Governor shouldn't be made controversial: BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra said on Thursday that the appointment of former Chief Justice of India (CJI) P. Sathasivam as the Governor of Kerala shouldn't be made controversial because the present government feels that he has all the qualities required to be in that post.

"The present government only feels that any governor which is a very important constitutional post should have impeccable integrity, should not be corrupt and should have knowledge about the Constitution of the country. All these three characters are found in the Ex-CJI so why should there be a problem," said Patra.

The statement came amid controversy after Justice Sathasivam was appointed as the Governor of Kerala yesterday.

Justice Sathasivam has succeeded Sheila Dikshit who had submitted her resignation as the Kerala Governor last month.

Sathasivam was the 40th CJI holding office from July 2013 to April 2014 and was on the Supreme Court bench that had scrapped a second FIR against Amit Shah in the fake encounter case last year.
