Former England cricketing greats have slammed the current squad after their humiliating 45-run loss to the Netherlands in Chittagong in the Super-10 stages of the World Twenty20 on Monday.

Bowled out for just 88 with more than two overs to spare in reply to the Netherlands' 133 for five, defeat sealed a miserable tour programme for England, already unable to reach the semi-finals of this event, following their 5-0 Ashes series loss in Australia.

According to Sport24, former England captain Michael Vaughan said before the match that he had a feeling it could be an 'embarrassing sort of day' and his words proved more than prophetic with only three England batsmen making double figures.

Vaughan also tweeted after the defeat that it summed up England's 'garbage' winter season, and another former captain Michael Atherton agreed with him, saying that the team is 'totally shot of confidence'.

Atherton also referred to the 'minnows' traditional bright orange shirts - colours adopted by England this tournament, and said that England has been unbelievably 'tangoed' again, adding that England has gone from bad to worse- total disintegration in the Ashes, and a lack of improvement in the one-day game.

Former England coach David Lloyd, who is also an ex-Lancashire and England opening batsman, was scathing about England's latest in a line of dreadful displays and called them 'brainless, shameful and totally unacceptable', adding that the team has been 'diabolical' all winter.
