A former director of football at Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur has said Premier League champions Manchester United also needs to have a director of football.
According to the BBC, the club signed Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini for 27.5 million pounds but missed out on a number of further targets like Everton defender Leighton Baines, Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao.
Stating that new United manager David Moyes and chief executive Ed Woodward needs more help, Damien Comolli said that United is in need of a director of football to ease the process for both individuals.
Comolli, who was in charge of transfer affairs at Tottenham from 2005 to 2008 and at Liverpool from 2010 to 2012, also said that the issue for United is that the two most important people at the club in former boss Sir Alex Ferguson and former CEO David Gill left their positions and new people came in for their first transfer window.
According to Comolli, the club was not prepared or they did not think that it would be that difficult and thus ended up in a difficult situation.
