Former Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has accused 'axed' manager David Moyes of 'ignoring the advice' of more experienced staff at the club and making a series of fundamental mistakes.

Meulesteen, one of the coaches who left after Moyes took over, said that he had warned Moyes that moving from Everton to United to replace Sir Alex Ferguson is like going from a yacht to a cruise liner.

According to the Guardian, Meulensteen said that Moyes had himself to blame for his sacking because he under-estimated the size of the job at United, adding that it is 'too crazy for words' that the Scot left United seventh in the Premier League, 23 points adrift of the top place.

Meulensteen said that the reason behind Moyes' failure at the club is that he opted to put his own plans in place, which the Scot was perfectly entitled to do, but it backfired on him.

The former assistant coach said that he always strongly believes that the performances and the results are a reflection of what is actually happening behind the door and that was simply not good enough at United.

Meulensteen added that one should not forget that Moyes had been a respected manager in the Premier League who worked for 11 years at Everton in a very good way, but he had warned him that there is a big difference between United and his former club.

Meulensteen said that Moyes underestimated everything that surrounds United, the players, the performances, the pressure, the style, and the identity, which cost him his position, the report added.
