Former Pakistani refugee and Australian spinner Fawad Ahmed has raised expectations of a possible Ashes call-up with his breakthrough performance for Australia, and said that he would be ready to play in Tests.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the former Pakistani refugee claimed his first full international wickets in Saturday's 29-run Twenty20 loss to England, finishing with an impressive 3-25 in only his second appearance for his adopted nation.
Ahmed said that he was always praying to make it to the Australian team and play good cricket, adding that the dream had now come true.
He said that there was nothing better than representing the country, and this would be a moment that he will remember forever in life.
Ahmed fled to Australia from Pakistan in 2010 as an asylum seeker after receiving death threats for supporting women's rights, the report said.
He said that if he had a chance in the future for the Ashes, he would be ready to take it.
