Former Samajwadi Party leader Kamal Farooqui on Thursday expressed his grief over the Haj stampede tragedy that has so far claimed over 700 lives and left another 800 injured.

He said it was a very unfortunate incident and urged the Saudi Arabian Government to investigate the causes for the tragedy thoroughly.

"This is very unfortunate. I think the Saudi Government has to look into the whole thing again despite of the fact that they have made huge arrangement still human tragedy are happening," Farooqui told ANI.

Hundreds of people were injured in the incident at Mina, which occurred as two million pilgrims were taking part in the Hajj's last major rite.
The stampede occurred during the ritual known as "stoning the devil" in the tent city of Mina, about two miles from Mecca.
