Facebook glitch makes outside links disappear

Facebook has reported that a glitch had caused users posts to disappear and new links are apparently being blocked when posting is attempted.

According to the Verge, the bug only affected posts containing links to content outside of Facebook. The bug has caused major problems for users.

The problem seems to have begun with issues in Facebook's image-scraping system, which automatically pulls pictures from posted links.

Users attempting to post new links were met with a security warning because of the bug. Some users who clicked on existing links faced similar warnings, which read that the link has been blocked for security reasons. Many posts containing links also vanished.

Facebook spokesperson said that an error in their system that helps block bad links on Facebook incorrectly marked some URLs as malicious or inappropriate. So some existing posts were hidden while other posts were blocked completely.

Facebook claims that they have resolved the issue and the remaining affected URLs are being unblocked.
