A team of Bollywood and television actors have taken up the challenge of performing the highly successful Drama 'KKnock KKnock' here after a gap of twelve years.
Both lead actors, Hasan Zaidi and Rajesh Khera, are making their debut in theatre. The reigns of direction are in the hands of television actor Pankaj Singh. The production of the play is in the adept hands of Prinal Oberoi.
Kknock Kknock is a suspense thriller play, based on Anthony Shaffers award-winning English Play Sleuth of 1970. It went to the Oscars for its film adaptation which starred Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine. It earned so much fame in India that many adaptations of this play have been enacted in languages like Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi.
Twelve years ago, acting stalwarts like Paresh Rawal and Naseerudin Shah had staged highly successful shows based on the same script named KHEL (A Hindi Play). They even performed this drama at various international theaters.
Hasan Zaidi's recent film is Vikram Bhatt's 'Horror Story'. He has been part of television serials from the house of Yashraj Productions. As for Rajesh Khera, he too has long association with television serials and films.
His recent movie was Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Saheb Biwi aur Gangster' Part 2. He was also in the cast of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi' and played the character of a fashion designer.
Pankaj Singh has several plays under his belt with the prominent one's being Badal Sircar's Pagla Ghoda, Gyan Chaturvedi's 'Baramamsi' and he is part of the serial Shapath being telecasted on television channel Life OK. Another strong point is the support of Bollywood as the costume is being done by famous designer Shahid Amir.
Kknock Kknock, the Hindi play is set in the mansion of Rajwade, an immensely successful mystery writer. The Rajwade home reflects his obsession with the inventions and deceptions of fiction and his fascination with games and game playing. He lures his wife's (Sai) lover, Ajay Talwalkar, to the house and convinces him to stage a robbery of her jewellery, a proposal that sets off a chain of events that leaves the audience trying to decipher where Rajwade's imagination ends and reality begins.
The burning desire to put a masterpiece motivated the artists to take out time from their busy schedules.
The director of the play, Pankaj Singh, says, "Every member of the production wishes to give the audience the best and it is this which has acted as a magnate to bring acclaimed artists, both onscreen and off-screen, together."
He also said that people are so exited and motivated that there are people pitching in without any fees.
The corporate world is also ready to assist as they wish to be part of a team which has taken the plunge to give the best entertainment to the people of Mumbai. Videocon d2h which sponsored IPL is the main sponsor of this Stage Players Theatre production. Theatre is a difficult medium as while on TV or films they can retake the mistakes but on the stage it's just one take. The first show will be premiered on the 1st December, 2013 at Rangshaarda Auditorium, Bandra West.
