17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer's has been affected by a mysterious affliction on his finger during his spirited fight back against Italian Simone Bolelli at the Australian Open on Wednesday.
Federer had just been blasted off the court in the first set by the Italian when he sought treatment on his hand.
The world number two said that it did not look like a blister and he had thought he might have been stung by a bee, but was still examining his hand after the 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Federer said that he doesn't know what that thing was, adding that it's the weirdest thing. He added that he feels it on the tip of his finger, claiming that it was just felt really odd starting after the break, and for three, four games, it was the funniest feeling he had.
The Swiss said that he feels like it's numb and swollen, adding that actually it went away, but now he feels it again, claiming that he doesn't know what the feeling is.
Federer declined to have the finger taped by medical staff because it would have just looked bigger and weird. He laughingly added that one cannot see anything, but insisted that it's definitely swollen and is funny.
Federer will now face Andreas Seppi in the third round at the Australian Open, the report added.
