17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will return to Perth to represent Switzerland in the mixed-team Hopman Cup for the first time since 2001, the organisers confirmed on Thursday.
The Swiss maestro will team up with 16th-ranked Belinda Bencic at an event that serves as a warm-up for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season.
Reflecting on his decision, Federer said that the Hopman Cup would be a perfect tournament for him to start the season, while praising the stadium and the atmosphere in Perth, Sport24 reported.
Federer had won the Hopman Cup with Martina Hingis in 2001.
