Last month, singer Fergie and actor Josh Duhamel took everyone by surprise when they announced their decision to end their 8 years of marriage.

But while appearing on the The Wendy Williams Show, the 42-year-old singer revealed that she never wanted to split from husband Josh Duhamel, reports People Magazine.

Fergie was seen getting emotional as she thought she would be "together forever" with the actor.

She said, "It wasn't my plan. I wanted to stay together forever. I love Josh, he's the father of my child, we forever have that project together and we're doing the best we can."

After getting emotional, she said, "You made me cry. Like two minutes in, you're getting me tearing up."

Fergie and Duhamel announced their decision to split in September.

The couple released a joint statement, which read, "With absolute love and respect we decided to separate as a couple earlier this year. To give our family the best opportunity to adjust, we wanted to keep this a private matter before sharing it with the public."

At that time, the pair added in the statement, "We are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family."

The pair began dating in 2004 after Fergie appeared on his show Las Vegas with The Black Eyed Peas. They got engaged in December 2007 and married two years later in Malibu, California.
