The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday hinted that the attack at army post in Tangdhar near the Line of Control in Kupwara district could be a 'Fidayeen' strike.

"We got to know in the morning that some blasts were heard near a local army unit. Some fire shots were also heard. We have launched an operation and reports say that some militants are inside the camp. It looks like a Fidayeen attack and our assessment is that more than three people are involved. So far, one jawan has been injured," SSP Kupwara Ajaz Ahmed told ANI.

At around 7:40 am, three to four terrorists positioned themselves at a mountainous ridge near the camp located near the LoC. The terrorists also threw grenades.

Heavy exchange of fire is underway as the army has launched a counter-terror operation against the militants.

According to reports, an oil depot in the army camp has caught fire amid the gun battle.
