FIFA-suspended Jamaican footballer latest in country's doping accused list

World football governing body FIFA has suspended an unnamed Jamaican footballer for 30 days following a positive drugs test, adding another name to the list of doping accused athletes and further tainting the sport in the country. ccording to CNN, in July, high-profile Jamaican sprinters Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson both tested positive for banned substances, while more recently sprinting star Usain Bolt and the entire Jamaican team were blood-tested for banned drugs just days before the World Championships in Russia.

The report further said that traces of a banned substance were found in a sample from the player provided after a 2014 World Cup qualifying match between Jamaica and Honduras on June 11, adding that the player and an official have both been handed the 30-day suspension.

Stating that the player has foregone his right to have a second 'B' sample analyzed, FIFA mentioned in a statement that the player and the official have until 12 August to inform the body whether they wish to request a hearing.

According to FIFA, the player, the official and/or the Jamaican FA have until 19 August to submit a statement to FIFA, together with all related and supporting documentary evidence irrespective of whether or not they request a hearing.
