At least five persons were injured when workers of the Congress Party and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) clashed during local bodies polls in West Bengal.

The injured are reportedly recuperating in a local hospital.

"We were going to a poling booth to cast our votes. Suddenly they attacked our-the Congress Party workers attacked us," said TMC worker, Basudev Jana.

Security has been tightened in the region because it is a Maoist stronghold.

Sporadic violence was reported from other districts such as Bankura and Purulia.

The five-phase elections in the state are taking place on July 11, 15, 19, 22 and 25.
