At least five passengers were killed and 26 others were injured when a bus in which they were travelling fell into a dry drain off a bridge near Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh late on Sunday.
The mishap occurred in the Garaghat area along the Agra-Mumbai Highway.
Police said the bus was heading towards Gwalior and skidded off on a turn before plunging into the drain, located around 20 feet below the bridge.
Police said the driver lost control of his vehicle after one of its wheels landed in a crater at a turning on the bridge.
The injured have been admitted to a government hospital for treatment. A probe has been launched into the incident. Further details are awaited.
