Italian tennis player Flavia Pennetta has won the final of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells defeating injured world number three Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 6-1.

Pennetta was reportedly aided in her victory over Radwanska because of the Pole's knee injury that required a lengthy medical time-out in the second set.

According to the BBC, Pennetta wrapped up the title with six games in a row after an hour and 13 minutes and will climb to 12th in the rankings.

The tennis player said that it is 'incredible', something 'amazing' on bagging her first WTA title since 2010.

Pennetta, who struggled with both a back and wrist injury after beating world number two Li Na in the semi-finals of 2010 and dropped as low as 166th in the world, was considering retirement before reaching the semi-finals of the US Open last year, the report added.
