Following heavy rains due to the north east monsoons, a flood alert has been issued in the low lying areas of Tamil Nadu.

Heavy rains have led to an overflowing of dams and reservoirs in the state's Erode and Tirupur Districts.

The intense rainfall has left a trail of destruction in many parts of the state. Farmers at Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, and Tiruvarur have also suffered, as rain water has flooded paddy fields.
